Hello Dear community,
I was recently invited to give a talk at ESIP’s IT&I – Information Technology & Interoperability cluster session organized by Chris Battisto.
The online talk was last Thursday Oct 10th, and the recording is now available on youtube: https://youtu.be/MDltKFePej8?feature=shared
Title: Hyrax in the Cloud: Enabling Cloud-Performant Data Access with OPeNDAP
Abstract: The rapid growth of Earth sensing data collected by various agencies around the world, com- bined with the increasing volume of output from complex global circulation and climate models, presents significant challenges for data access, distribution, and analysis. Addressing these chal- lenges is essential to advancing Open Science initiatives. Within the ecosystem of Open Science tools, OPeNDAP has continue to play a critical role by enabling scientists, researchers, and educa- tors to share and access large datasets remotely, eliminating the need to fully download them locally.
As cloud infrastructure becomes increasingly integral to modern data architectures, ongoing ef- forts are focused on incorporating cloud-native capabilities into these distributed systems. This talk will highlight OPeNDAP’s past and present efforts toward integrating cloud workflows to provide efficient, cloud-performant access to archival scientific datasets such as HDF5/NetCDF4 and HDF4. The discussion will emphasize the balance between enhancing performance, maintaining data inter- operability and user experience.
